    Christmas in London is a magical time not to be missed! For the holidays, there are many activities in London: ice rinks, Christmas markets, caves of Santa Claus, which are present in the most beautiful places of the city. In addition, the British capital is a destination recognized for the quality and originality of these Christmas lights which will delight children and their parents alike.



    The main shopping streets are adorned with lights, the theme of which changes every year and depending on the neighborhood. Guaranteed wonder, even if you don't necessarily appreciate the end-of-year celebrations.

    Oxford Street with its 300 stores is a must for shopping Shopping but also to admire the Christmas lights.


    Each year, a celebrity is invited to light the decorations at a ceremony. In previous years, Kylie Minogue, Robin Williams or even DJ Craig David had responded to make the avenue sparkle.

    From November 21, 2019, Oxford Street turns into sparkling lights. Gone are the glittering trinkets, replaced with new, energy-efficient LED screens - 27 of them to be precise, hanging the length of the shopping street

    Regent Street Christmas Lights

    With over 300 LED bulbs, Regent Street is London's brightest street! It is also in this large shopping avenue where the first Christmas decorations in London are lit up.

    Each year, the Christmas decorations on Regent Street change their theme. In 2014, the street put the spotlight on the film Night at the Museum: The Secret of the Pharaohs, in 2015, it was clock movements that decorated this street.

    As in 2017, the Regent Street illuminations will be themed “Spirit of Christmas” to pay homage to the first Christmas lights installed in 1954.

    The inauguration will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 17 p.m. to 21 p.m. and a show will be held in the street from 17 p.m. to 30 p.m.

    The original Carnaby Street Christmas lights


    Bon plan! On the occasion of the illumination of Carnaby Street on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 18:00 p.m., more than 120 stores (fashion, bars, pubs and restaurants) will offer a 20% reduction on your purchases. The participating brands are for example Barbour, Dr Martens, Fred Perry, Nixon and many others, the full list can be found on the pedestrian street site.

    To benefit from it, Inscrivez-vous  on the site to get a free entry ticket. On this occasion, many activities will also be offered: live music, DJ, free drinks.

    If you can't come by this date, I advise you to discover the Christmas lights of Canarby Street which are original and offbeat every year! This year, a colorful mural will depict the plentiful marine life of sea creatures such as a 5m whale blowing bubbles at visitors, as well as dolphins, turtles, jellyfish, a hammerhead shark and schools of fish.

    Christmas in Covent Garden

    A Covent Garden, Christmas lights decorate the interior of the covered market with elegant decorations that change every year. Outside, the covered market, a 7-meter silver reindeer and a giant Christmas tree sparkle.

    The pedestrianized street of Neal Street

    A short walk from Covent Garden, Neal Street is a pleasant and charming pedestrianized street with Christmas decorations not to be missed.

    This shopping street is to be discovered for shopping with the brands Dr Martens, Nike Store, Camper and many others ...

    Inauguration on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 17 p.m. to 00 p.m. with free activities on the theme of stars, festive live music, Christmas treats and decorations.

    Like the Mayfair district, the illuminations on Bond Street are elegant and refined. This street hosts many luxury stores such as Cartier, Hermes, Tiffany, the opportunity to discover their beautiful Christmas windows.

    The Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square

    Each year, Norway gives the City of London a 25-meter Christmas tree, installed in Trafalgar Square.

    This spruce tree decorated with 500 lights will be illuminated on December 5, 2019 at 18 p.m. in the presence of the Mayor of London and the Ambassador of Norway.

    Christmas carols from Monday December 9 to Tuesday December 24, 2019 (except December 14 and 22, 2019). Weekdays from 16 p.m. to 21 p.m. and weekends from 14 p.m. to 19 p.m.

    The Illuminated Shard

    Every evening from December 2, 2019, the top 20 floors of the shard will be illuminated for the biggest light show in Western Europe.

    The light show will consist of three nine-minute sequences every half hour from 16 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will reflect the designs created by the schoolchildren.

    On New Years Eve, there will be a unique display from the midnight alarm clock to the early hours of New Years, before the show ends.

    Christmas lights at Kew Gardens

    From November 20, 2019, Palm House (magnificent Victorian greenhouse of Kew Gardens) dresses in tens of thousands of twinkling lights. A dazzling spectacle and a good plan to take magnificent photos.

    Conclusion

    Paris had better watch out because the English are very good at decorating London for the Christmas holidays !!

    The illuminations not to be missed in London are undoubtedly those of Oxford Street, Regent Street and Covent Garden. Those of Carnaby Street are my favorite because they are very original every year and are located in a pretty pedestrian street in Soho.
